Safwa, Saudi Arabia
Where is Safwa anyway?
Safwa is a small city on the Persian gulf. Its population is around 50,000 people. Most people work at the largest oil company "ARAMCO". ARAMCO was an international oil company that the Saudi Government bought few years ago, and now is called "Saudi ARAMCO".
Tell me more about Safwa
Safwa lies between the city of Dammam and Jubail. It is north of Dammam with about 30 km and 50 km south of Jubail. In addition, it is just around 15-20 km south the rich oil fields in Ras Tanura, where most people work.
Before oil discovery, more than 50 years ago, most people were poor and they were mainly fishermen and farmers. But things had changed fast, I mean really fast. Economical situation has improved since, and because of the presence of basic health care, infant mortality took a nose dive which lead to increased population.
Education also made its way, and as a result, literacy has reached good levels (~80%) by third world standard, not to the levels we wish, but it is better than in many third world and neighboring countries.
